Catalyst Campaign Hits Milestone

The Catalyst Campaign, the most ambitious fundraising endeavor in the history of the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), has topped the $550 million mark in its quest to achieve its $750 million goal.

Thousands of alumni and friends of the University and its six professional schools and interdisciplinary Graduate School have demonstrated their commitment to UMB’s collective pursuit of excellence and leadership as a top-tier public research institution.

The campaign seeks to generate substantial private-sector support to augment the state of Maryland’s invaluable assistance, along with growing federal research funding. Among key priorities to be strengthened through philanthropy are student scholarships, faculty excellence, research, clinical programs, entrepreneurship, and school-based initiatives.

UMB Interim President Bruce E. Jarrell, MD, FACS, notes, “Our University has distinguished itself in professional higher education for more than 210 years. We can be justifiably proud of the progress and achievement that has come from the notable work and service of countless talented people who have built and nurtured this remarkable institution. We are challenged to continue the upward trajectory that promises even greater accomplishment in the future. Deeply grateful for the philanthropic support of so many generous partners in the Catalyst Campaign to date, we look forward to the help and confidence of others in UMB’s pursuit of its noble mission.”

Campaign co-chairs are Brian J. Gibbons, JD ’87, chairman of the board and CEO of Greenberg Gibbons, and Ellen H. Yankellow, BSP ’73, PharmD ’96, president and CEO of Correct Rx Pharmacy Services, both Baltimore-area companies.

The Catalyst Campaign offers prospective donors numerous opportunities to honor family names and/or loved ones by establishing designated scholarships, research fellowships, professorships, and academic or research programs in the various schools. Spaces throughout the UMB campus, including classrooms, laboratories, conference rooms, and others are also available for donor recognition.
